Why Ohio?
Wondering if Ohio is worth the trip? For many years Ohio was the best kept secret in the whitetail world. Then around the turn of the century a few 'small' happenings started to let the world know that the Ohio deer woods are among the best there are. The initial string of events began on November 8th 2000 when Ohio bowhunter Mike Beatty, harvested the 304 6/8in 'Beatty Buck'. Taken in Green county Ohio the buck ranks as the #1 all time non-typical whitetail harvested by a bow hunter. It holds the #3 P&Y position all time of wild whitetails behind the 'Missouri Monarch's' 333-7/8in rack and Ohio’s very own 'Hole in the Horn’, which sports a 328-2/8in frame. That’s right, we have two of the top three whitetails in history. Since the 'Beatty Buck' of 2000 several record book bucks have been harvested in Ohio. Bucks such as the 'Jerman Buck' taken on November 10th of 2004 which nets a score of 201-1/8in typical continued to let our little secret become known to the world. Our most recent record book buck, 'The Amish Buck', harvested by John Schmucker on the opening day of the 2006 archery season boasts a net score of 295 7/8 and without a doubt has put Ohio in the lime light of whitetail Meccas. According to an article by Les Davenport in the February 08 issue of NAW, Ohio ranks #4 in both B&C and P&Y entries per square mile from 2001 thru 2006 and as the #4 all time state in P&Y entries.
